Unified African action to contain the Ebola outbreak: Ramaphosa visits Congo to offer support

The Congolese capital witnessed Kinshasa A high-level African move to support efforts to combat the Ebola virus, where the President of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Felix Tshisekedi, led an expanded meeting attended by the President of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa, and a number of officials and international partners, to coordinate the health response and contain the spread of the disease.
The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) organized the meeting at the National Institute of Biomedical Research (INRB) headquarters, with the aim of mobilizing political, technical and financial support, accelerating the delivery of aid to the most affected areas, and strengthening the Democratic Republic of Congo’s capacity to cope with the Ebola outbreak and protect countries in the region.
Continental solidarity with Congo
The participants stressed that the presence of the South African president reflects the continent’s solidarity with the Democratic Republic of Congo and sends a message of confidence in the efforts led by the Congolese authorities to combat the disease, emphasizing that confronting Ebola requires rapid regional coordination and a collective response, not imposing isolation on the affected countries.
The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention indicated that it will continue to provide technical and logistical support to outbreak hotspots, in collaboration with the Congolese government and international partners, to ensure the disease is quickly contained and prevented from spreading to neighboring countries.
The participants affirmed that the Democratic Republic of Congo is leading the field response efforts, while African countries continue to unite their efforts to support Kinshasa in facing health challenges, in a model that reflects continental cooperation to protect public health and promote health security in Africa.
In another context, the President of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Felix-Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo, expressed his sincere congratulations to the “Leopards” football team, despite the end of their journey in the twenty-third edition of the 2026 World Cup, following their loss with a score of (2-1) against the England team in the match that was held in the American city of Atlanta.
Discipline, courage, and intelligence
The President praised the performance of the Congolese national team players, stressing that they showed “discipline, courage and intelligence,” and played with a fighting spirit that kept the hearts of the people of the Democratic Republic of Congo beating with pride, which is what he had called for in his speech on the occasion of the celebration of the sixty-sixth anniversary of the country’s independence.
Tshisekedi called on the Congolese people at home and abroad to take pride in their national team, stressing that the “Leopards” had succeeded in raising the name of the Democratic Republic of Congo high, and had undoubtedly written one of the most beautiful pages in the country’s sporting history.
