Egypt affirms its full solidarity with Mali in the face of terrorist acts.

The Foreign Minister discusses security conditions and counter-terrorism efforts with his Malian counterpart

Badr Abdel-Aty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Foreign Affairs Egyptians Abroad, a telephone call from Abdoulaye Diop, the Malian Foreign Minister, during which they discussed ways to strengthen Relations The bilateral relations between the two countries, along with discussions on counter-terrorism efforts in the Sahel region.

Review of the security situation

During the call, the Malian Foreign Minister reviewed the latest security developments in his country and the efforts made to combat terrorism and extremism, which contribute to supporting security and stability within Mali. He also discussed the rapid developments that the country has witnessed recently.

Egypt renews its condemnation of terrorist attacks

For his part, Minister Badr Abdel-Aty praised the close relations between Egypt and Mali, reiterating Egypt’s condemnation of the terrorist attacks that Mali has recently been subjected to, and stressing Cairo’s full solidarity with Bamako in confronting these terrorist acts.

The Foreign Minister stressed Egypt’s categorical rejection of all attacks targeting the security and stability of the Malian state, affirming Cairo’s firm stance against all forms of terrorism and extremism.

Abdel-Aati stressed the importance of concerted regional and international efforts to combat terrorism, work to dry up its sources of funding, and confront the extremist ideas that fuel it, in order to support security and stability in the Sahel region and the African continent, within the framework of a comprehensive approach that links security and development.

Agreement to strengthen coordination 

The two ministers exchanged views on ways to consolidate security and peace and achieve development in the African continent, and both sides agreed to strengthen coordination at the bilateral and multilateral levels, and to build on the existing political and developmental momentum, in a way that serves common interests and contributes to supporting stability and development in Africa.

Relations between Egypt and Mali

Egyptian-Malian relations are characterized by deep-rooted historical and strategic ties, which officially began with Mali’s independence in 1960, as Egypt considers Malian stability an integral part of its national security and an extension of its strategic depth in the African Sahel region.

The political track between the two countries is witnessing great momentum through mutual visits and continuous consultations, the latest of which was the visit of the Egyptian Foreign Minister to Bamako in July 2025, during which he stressed Cairo’s keenness to support the Malian state institutions in restoring security and control over all its territories, with the signing of memoranda of understanding to launch institutional political consultation mechanisms.

On the field and development level, Egypt plays a pivotal role in building the capacities of financial personnel through intensive training programs in the areas of combating terrorism and extremist thought, which are supervised by the Cairo International Center and Al-Azhar missions to spread moderate thought.

Cooperation also extends to vital economic sectors such as infrastructure, where Egyptian companies have extensive experience in construction, energy and pharmaceuticals, as well as agricultural cooperation aimed at transferring Egyptian expertise in cultivating strategic crops such as rice and wheat to achieve sustainable development in Mali.
