Tanzanian president receives honorary doctorate from prestigious Russian university

The President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, was awarded an honorary doctorate (Honoris Causa) from the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia (RUDN), which was presented to her by Professor Oleg Yastrebov during a ceremony held at the university's headquarters in Moscow, Russia, on June 4, 2026.

The awarding of this honorary degree to President Dr. Samia came in recognition of her contributions to reforming the education sector, her efforts in promoting Tanzanian diplomacy, and her role in supporting Tanzania’s international standing, including her contributions to enhancing the country’s global presence through the tourism sector.

The university also praised the Tanzanian president's contributions to developing international relations and enhancing Tanzania's standing on the world stage, noting that her achievements in education, diplomacy and development have contributed to raising the country's status regionally and internationally.
