Burkina Faso and Benin: Joint patrols to enhance security

The armies of Burkina Faso and Benin have launched joint patrols in the border region of Koualo, marking a new step in strengthening their security cooperation in the face of the threat posed by armed groups.
A convoy of Burkina Faso combat troops was spotted in the border town of Koualo, according to a video broadcast by the Beninese media outlet ”Le Potential” and reported by the online media outlet “Burkina Yawana”.
Joint patrols between the forces of the two countries
The images show Burkinabe military vehicles entering the area, greeted by Beninese soldiers, in a sequence presented as the start of joint patrols between the two countries' forces.
This initiative comes just weeks after the friendly visit of Beninese President Romuald Wadani to Ouagadougou on June 2, 2026.
Following his talks with the President of Burkina Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, the two heads of state reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening military cooperation, exchanging intelligence, and coordinating operations against armed groups operating in border areas.
The Koualou region, located on the border between Burkina Faso and Benin, is considered a strategic sector in the fight against cross-border insecurity. Joint patrols aim to improve operational coordination between the two armies and strengthen security along the main roads linking northern Benin with eastern Burkina Faso.
