President Sisi affirms Egypt's readiness to support Congo in the fields of infrastructure and energy

Egypt and Congo signed, 4 Memoranda of Understanding Key agreements were signed during a visit by the President of the Democratic Republic of Congo to Egypt, amid a surge in bilateral relations between the two countries.

According to what was announced after the talks between Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Congolese President Felix Tshisekedi today at the Presidential Palace, four memoranda of understanding and key agreements were signed between Egypt and the Democratic Republic of Congo, including a memorandum of understanding for political and diplomatic consultations between the two countries’ foreign ministries, with the aim of strengthening political coordination and regular consultation.

The memoranda of understanding between Egypt and Congo include an agreement for cooperation in promoting investment.

The memoranda of understanding include an agreement for cooperation in promoting investment between the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones and the Congolese Investment Promotion Agency, to increase mutual investments and open new opportunities for Egyptian and Congolese companies.

Among them is a memorandum of understanding to establish an Egyptian wing for cardiovascular diseases within Al-Nahda Hospital in the Democratic Republic of Congo, within the framework of health and medical cooperation between the two countries, and a memorandum of understanding in the field of housing and urban development between the Administrative Capital for Urban Development Company and the Congolese side, to transfer Egyptian expertise in urban planning, housing and new cities.

During the press conference, President Sisi affirmed Egypt’s readiness to support the Democratic Republic of Congo in the areas of infrastructure and energy, and announced Egypt’s commitment to supporting dam and water development projects in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received today President Felix Tshisekedi, President of the Democratic Republic of Congo, and welcomed President Tshisekedi on his fourth visit to Egypt in the past few years, which reflects the depth and distinction of Egyptian-Congolese relations, appreciating the momentum witnessed in bilateral cooperation between the two brotherly countries.

The President also extended his congratulations to President Tshisekedi on the 66th anniversary of Congo's independence, which falls at the end of June.

For his part, the Congolese President expressed his appreciation for the warm welcome he always receives during his visits to Egypt, stressing his country’s gratitude for the support provided by Egypt in various fields, and appreciating the President’s keenness to develop relations with the Democratic Republic of Congo, as well as the efforts undertaken by Egypt to establish peace in the African continent in general, and in the Democratic Republic of Congo in particular.

The official spokesperson explained that the two presidents discussed ways to enhance bilateral relations between Egypt and the Democratic Republic of Congo, with the president stressing the need to continue working to promote trade and investments between the two countries, emphasizing the importance of holding the joint committee meeting and developing executive programs and mechanisms to follow up on the progress made in bilateral cooperation in various areas of common interest.
