Opening new facilities to enhance health security

Jean Cassia, the Director General of the Centers, announced African To combat and prevent diseases, he paid an official visit to South Sudan on May 1, 2026, during which he met with senior government leaders to discuss ways to develop the health sector and enhance health security in the country.
Kasia explained, via his official X platform account, that the meetings included the Vice President of South SudanThe Minister of Cabinet Affairs, the Minister of Health, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, along with officials from the National Institute of Public Health.
Discussions on health sector priorities
The director of the African Centers noted that the discussions focused on the strategic priorities needed to advance the health sector in South Sudan, and to build resilient health systems capable of dealing with crises, in a way that serves the interests of the population and improves the quality of health services.
The discussions also addressed ways to support national preparedness for dealing with health emergencies and epidemics, and to enhance the capabilities of national health institutions.




Opening of the Emergency Operations Center and National Laboratory
During the visit, Jean Cassia inaugurated the Public Health Emergency Operations Center (PHEOC), which is a key component for enhancing the country’s ability to respond quickly to health crises and emergencies.
The National Public Health Laboratory (NPHL) was also inaugurated, which is an important pillar in supporting diagnostic capabilities, early detection of diseases, and the development of the health monitoring system in the country.
