Tanzanian President: Progress in neurosurgery is a humanitarian priority

Dar es Salaam hosts the International Conference on Brain Surgery

The President of the Republic of the Union TanzaniaDr. Samia Suluhu Hassan delivered an official speech before a number of health sector stakeholders and international guests, prior to the opening of the second World Federation of Neurovascular Surgery (WFNS) International Conference, which was hosted by the capital Dar es Salaam at the Julius Nyerere International Conference Centre (JNICC) on April 16, 2026.

Tanzania to host WFNS conference  

The World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies (WFNS) International Congress is one of the world’s leading medical events specializing in neurosurgery, bringing together a select group of experts, doctors and researchers from around the world.

The hosting of this international medical event by the city of Dar es Salaam comes within the framework of strengthening Tanzania’s position as a regional and international center for medical and scientific conferences, as well as supporting the development of the health sector and the exchange of modern medical expertise.

During her address to the audience, President Samia Suluhu Hassan stressed the importance of strengthening international cooperation in the field of neurosurgery, noting that medical progress in this field is a humanitarian priority due to its direct impact on patients' lives and the quality of healthcare.

She also stressed the importance of supporting scientific research and exchanging experiences among participating countries, which contributes to the development of modern surgical techniques and raising the efficiency of medical personnel in Africa and the world.
