Egypt and Kenya agree to boost infrastructure investments

On Monday, June 1, Dr. Badr Abdel-Aty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptians Abroad, met with Dr. Musalia Mudavadi, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Overseas Kenya, on the sidelines of the Korea-Africa Ministerial Meeting. The meeting addressed ways to strengthen bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries and coordination on African issues.

The Foreign Minister congratulated his Kenyan counterpart on the successful organization of the Africa-France Summit, expressing his hope to build on the summit’s outcomes in a way that serves the interests of the African continent, in addition to building on the results of the meeting between President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and his Kenyan counterpart William Ruto, in a way that contributes to strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries and advancing frameworks for joint cooperation in various fields.

Egypt and Kenya agree to increase trade exchange

Minister Abdel-Aty also stressed the importance of enhancing Egyptian and Kenyan investments in the infrastructure, agriculture, pharmaceutical, energy, construction and information technology sectors, and increasing the volume of trade exchange between the two countries, stressing the importance of providing an opportunity for Egyptian companies to benefit from the investment opportunities available in the Kenyan market, in light of the accumulated experience of Egyptian companies, in order to support comprehensive development efforts in Kenya, as well as enhancing cooperation in the fields of water resources management.

Minister Abdel-Aty also expressed his hope that Kenya would benefit from the financing mechanism for projects in the southern Nile Basin countries, which was launched by Egypt, and discussed prospects for cooperation in the areas of maritime transport, the blue economy, and the exploitation of natural and mineral resources in the exclusive economic zones.

Regarding water security, Minister Abdel-Aty stressed the importance of cooperation and integration in the Nile River to achieve common benefit and mutual interests, highlighting the importance of adhering to the spirit of consensus and brotherhood to restore inclusiveness to the Nile Basin Initiative, and rejecting unilateral actions, welcoming the positive developments in the consultative process of the initiative to restore inclusiveness in accordance with international law, in a way that achieves mutual benefit for all Nile Basin countries.
