Spain condemns the incident

President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi conducted today telephone call With Pedro Sánchez, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Spain.
Ambassador Mohamed El Shenawy, the official spokesman for the Presidency of the Republic, stated that the Spanish Prime Minister began the call by expressing his country’s condemnation of the incident that two ships were subjected to in the port of Damietta yesterday, Wednesday, as a result of a drone attack, stressing Spain’s solidarity, government and people, with Egypt in this circumstance.
The President explained that the relevant authorities are conducting investigations to determine the details and circumstances of the incident, noting the seriousness of the escalation taking place in the region, and stressing the need for Egypt, Spain, Europe and the international community to join forces to stop this escalation.
The official spokesperson added that the call also addressed the latest regional developments, with the President reviewing Egyptian efforts aimed at restoring stability in the region.
The Spanish Prime Minister expressed his deep appreciation for these efforts, and the importance of a peaceful settlement of conflicts to maintain peace and security in the Middle East was emphasized.
In this context, the Spanish Prime Minister stressed the need for the United Nations to play its role in stopping the ongoing war, also emphasizing the importance of reaching a just solution to the Palestinian issue based on the two-state solution.
During the call, the President also affirmed Egypt’s full solidarity with Spain regarding the fires that have recently occurred in some Spanish regions, expressing his sincere condolences to the victims of that crisis, and his wishes for a speedy recovery for the injured.
He affirmed Egypt’s readiness to provide all forms of support to help the Spanish side in facing these circumstances, noting his confidence in Spain’s ability to overcome them, and wishing it continued goodness and prosperity.
In another context, the President congratulated the Spanish Prime Minister on the Spanish national team's victory in the World Cup football tournament.
The official spokesperson stated that the Spanish Prime Minister expressed his deep appreciation for the President’s initiative to contact him to convey the message of Egyptian support during this critical time for his country, stressing the depth of the historical bilateral relations between Egypt and Spain at the official and popular levels, and also expressing his hope to continue working to strengthen relations and cooperation between the two countries in various political and economic fields.
