Former Nigerian international striker Michael Eneramo has died after collapsing during a football match in Kaduna State.

According to SCORENigeria, the incident occurred on Friday, when the 40-year-old player was participating in a match at the Anguan Yelua Stadium in the TV Zone of Kaduna City, where he came on as a substitute in the second half before suddenly collapsing without any contact with another player.

The website quoted a source as saying that Enneramo “fell on the field and died instantly. Attempts to revive him were unsuccessful, before his death was later announced at the hospital.”.

Eneramo had retired from professional football after a career in which he played for a number of prominent clubs, including Turkish side Beşiktaş JK, Tunisian club Espérance Sportive de Tunis, and Lobi Stars FC.

After retiring, the late player turned to working in the field of talent development, where he ran a football academy.

For its part, the official account of the Nigeria national football team mourned the deceased via the “X” platform, posting a picture of him accompanied by the phrase: “Rest in peace, Michael.”.
