Launch of the first ship repair and maintenance facility with investments of £101 million

At the Ghana-Ghana Investment SummitUK In London, President John Dramani Mahama and Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy witnessed the signing of the UK-Ghana Growth Partnership, which aims to help boost economic growth rates and create thousands of jobs.

The agreement was signed by the British High Commissioner to Ghana, Christian Rogge, and his counterpart, Sabah Zeta Benson, the Ghanaian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom and Ireland.

The partnership targets four priority areas: attracting private investment, facilitating trade for Ghanaian companies, driving industrial growth, and providing world-class education.

President Mahama noted that he particularly welcomed the announcement of the Takoradi Floating Dock project, a UK-backed project worth £101 million.

He said: “It will set a precedent in the use of local pension funds for infrastructure, and these investments will make Ghana sustainable and self-sufficient.”.

President Mahama added via Facebook: “I am pleased to announce that a historic growth partnership between the United Kingdom and Ghana was signed in London during the Ghana-UK Investment Summit, as a roadmap for the period 2026-2028. This partnership aims to deliver tangible benefits to Ghanaians and businesses operating in the country.”.
He added that deals worth up to £215 million form the core of cooperation with the United Kingdom, and by prioritizing private sector growth, infrastructure, and youth skills development, we aim to ensure global competitiveness.
As part of the partnership, a £101 million UK-backed initiative is being established, which is the first commercial-scale ship repair and maintenance facility in the Gulf of Guinea.
The Takoradi floating dock project is expected to provide up to 430 direct jobs, of which 301 are designated for women, which will put Ghana at the forefront of regional maritime hubs.
The partnership unlocks millions of pounds in climate-smart infrastructure projects, activates an £85 million reforestation fund, and includes a promising £9 million investment dedicated to forest restoration in the Ooty region. These transformative projects will create local jobs and protect our environment.
He pointed to a £6 million partnership to support the implementation of the artificial intelligence strategy in Ghana and to revitalize scientific and technological cooperation in universities.
In the health sector, systems will undergo a radical transformation thanks to a £4 million partnership to provide specialist training in clinical engineering.
New education guidelines will also be launched, providing outstanding opportunities for Ghanaian students to receive world-class training.
