Authorities in Kinshasa confirmed that the United States would bear all costs associated with this operation, noting that the implementation of the agreement would not impose any financial burdens on the Congolese government.

Receiving deportees from other countries

Two government sources in Kinshasa told Reuters earlier that the Democratic Republic of Congo was in talks with the administration of US President Donald Trump about accepting deportees from other countries, in what would be the latest in a series of similar agreements reached in Africa.

These discussions underscore Washington’s growing reliance on what is known as “third-country transfers” to expedite the removal of immigrants who have entered or remained in the United States without authorization.

Reuters noted that three sources at the United Nations referred to these talks, which were also confirmed by two diplomats quoting US officials.
