الفيضانات في ليبيريا تُشرّد الآلاف وتُلوّث مصادر الغذاء

تسببت الأمطار الغزيرة في فيضانات واسعة النطاق في مونروفيا والمناطق المحيطة بها، مما أدى إلى تدمير المنازل، وإتلاف الإمدادات الغذائية، وتلويث مصادر المياه.

يقول مسؤولون في المجال الإنساني، إن أكثر المتضررين هم الأسر التي تعيلها نساء، والأشخاص ذوو الإعاقة، وكبار السن، والأطفال دون سن الخامسة، والأسر التي لا دخل لها.

ووفقًا لجمعية الصليب الأحمر الليبيرية، يحتاج ضحايا الفيضانات بشكل عاجل إلى مساعدات غذائية، ومأوى، ومياه شرب نظيفة، وخدمات صرف صحي. ويحذر المسؤولون من أن كل يوم تأخير يزيد من سوء أوضاع النازحين.

وأكدت جمعية الصليب الأحمر الليبيرية في نداء طارئ صدر يوم الخميس: “إن حجم الاحتياجات يفوق بكثير الموارد المتاحة. لا يمكن للأسر التعافي بمفردها”.

وتدعو الجمعية حكومة ليبيريا، وشركاء التنمية، والجهات المانحة، والمواطنين إلى دعم جهود الإغاثة. أكدت الهيئة على ضرورة اتخاذ إجراءات فورية لإنقاذ الأرواح واستعادة كرامة المجتمعات المتضررة.

وأعلنت هيئة الحفاظ على الموارد الطبيعية في لويزيانا (LNRCS) أنها بصدد حشد فرق الاستجابة، وحثت المنظمات والأفراد الراغبين في التعاون على التواصل مع الجهات المعنية في إطار جهود مكافحة الفيضانات.

الفيضانات في كوت ديفوار

وعلى صعيد آخر في كوت ديفوار، أعلنت الحكومة، أن حصيلة ضحايا الفيضانات التي اجتاحت البلاد منذ منتصف مايو الماضي ارتفعت إلى 59 قتيلًا، في ظل استمرار هطول الأمطار الغزيرة التي تسببت في غرق أحياء سكنية وانهيارات أرضية، وسط تحذيرات من احتمال ارتفاع عدد الضحايا خلال الأسابيع المقبلة.

Government spokesperson Amadou Coulibaly said, following a cabinet meeting, that the authorities are monitoring the developments of the situation on the ground, expressing the government's regret over the increasing number of victims during the current rainy season, which usually lasts from May to July.

Abidjan most affected by floods

The economic capital, Abidjan, witnessed the most violent floods, especially in the communes of Attécoubé and Yopougon. Continuous rains caused roads and homes to be submerged and a number of buildings to collapse, resulting in casualties and injuries, in addition to the displacement of several families from low-lying areas.

Rescue and civil defense teams continue their search for missing persons, in addition to providing humanitarian aid to those affected and removing the effects of floods from the affected areas.

Warnings for residents of high-risk areas

The government urged citizens to adhere to safety guidelines, evacuate areas classified as high-risk, and not take the risk of remaining in locations exposed to landslides or floods, with expectations of heavy rainfall continuing in the coming days.

Authorities confirmed that they continue to monitor the situation in coordination with emergency services, in order to limit human and material losses and respond quickly to any developments.
