The President of Burundi affirms his full support for accelerating the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Agreement.

President Evariste Ndayishimiye, President of the Republic of Burundi and current Chairperson of the African Union, received a delegation from the Secretariat of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
The delegation was headed by Mahamadou Issoufou, the former president of the Republic of Niger, who holds the position of African Continental Free Trade Area champion and is the high-level representative tasked with presenting the agreement to the heads of state on the continent.
Assessing the level of implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Agreement
The discussions focused on assessing the level of implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Agreement, including monitoring the processes of signing, ratification and actual application of the protocols, which are the three axes that determine the pace of economic integration in the continent.
The Secretary-General of the African Continental Free Trade Area, Mr. Wamkele Mene, affirmed the organization’s full readiness to support Burundi in achieving its national vision: «An emerging country by 2040, and a developed country by 2060.».
For his part, the President renewed his firm commitment to continental integration and expressed his full support for all initiatives aimed at overcoming the obstacles to implementing the African Continental Free Trade Agreement, in order to make it a real engine for development and prosperity in Africa.
