The Croatian Football Federation announced the resignation of head coach Zlatko Dalić, following the end of Croatia's journey in the 2026 World Cup. This marks the end of a career spanning nearly nine years, during which the national team achieved its most significant international accomplishments.
The federation clarified that Dalic's contract ended with the national team's participation in the World Cup, indicating that it will begin procedures for contracting a new coach to lead the national team in upcoming commitments in the coming period.
Dalic leads Croatia
Dalić took over the Croatian national team in 2017 and succeeded in creating one of the most successful periods in Croatian football history, leading the team to the 2018 World Cup final in Russia, before taking second place after losing to France.
The national team continued its distinguished results under Dalic's leadership, winning third place in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, and also reached the final of the 2023 UEFA Nations League, finishing the tournament in second place.
Dalic is considered one of the most prominent coaches in the history of the Croatian national team, as he contributed to establishing the team's position among the top teams in Europe and the world, relying on a distinguished generation led by Luka Modric.
The Croatian Football Federation is scheduled to announce the identity of its new technical director in the coming days, in preparation for the start of the training phase for upcoming commitments, chief among them the qualifiers for the European Nations Championship.
