Ivory Coast prepares for Independence Day 2026: Paving projects in Yopougon and building beautification

On Saturday, July 11, 2026, Adama Beketogo, the mayor of Yopougon, the largest suburb of the capital Abidjan in Ivory Coast, conducted an inspection visit to the most important construction sites underway in the municipality, accompanied by his deputies and municipal directors.

This tour comes as part of preparations to celebrate the 66th anniversary of Ivory Coast’s independence, with official celebrations to be held in Yopougon on Friday, August 7, 2026.

The inspection tour included multiple sites, starting from the Siporex area and ending at the Fourth Bridge, in order to verify the smooth progress of work, the quality of facilities, and adherence to the specified timetables.

Road paving projects in the Yopogun area

The government has allocated 55 kilometers of asphalt road paving projects to the municipality of Yebogun. These projects include, among other things:

▪️ Paving and surfacing “Solidarity Street” (Boulevard de la Solidarité);

▪️ Paving and surfacing “Princess Street”;

▪️ Paving and developing the “Ficgayo” area;

▪️ Rehabilitation of several other roads in the municipality;

▪️ Improving and beautifying the facades of important buildings;

▪️ Upgrading the public lighting network along “Solidarity Street”, as well as in “Vicgayo” Square, “CP1“ Square, ”Jesse Jackson“ Complex, and ”BAE” Stadium.

Through these diverse activities, Yopougon is seriously preparing to welcome visitors from all over Côte d'Ivoire, as well as the international guests expected to attend this great national celebration.

The municipality is striving to live up to the responsibility and honor bestowed upon it by the President of the Republic, Alassane Ouattara, to host the national celebrations. This historic choice reflects the President's deep interest in Yopougon and its residents.
