رئيس السنغال السابق يطرح رؤيته لإصلاح الأمم المتحدة خلال مناظرة المرشحين للأمانة العامة

شارك الرئيس السنغالي السابق، ماكي سال، في 23 يوليو، في المناظرة التي نظّمتها الجمعية العامة للأمم المتحدة بين المرشحين لمنصب الأمين العام للمنظمة الدولية، وذلك بمقر الأمم المتحدة.
وخلال كلمته، استعرض سال رؤيته لإصلاح منظومة الأمم المتحدة، مؤكدًا ضرورة تعزيز كفاءتها وقدرتها على أداء مهامها الأساسية، خاصة في مجالات حفظ السلام والأمن، ودعم حقوق الإنسان، ودفع جهود التنمية.
وأشار، إلى أن خبرته في العمل العام، إلى جانب تفاعله على المستويين الأفريقي والدولي، تمنحه القدرة على الإسهام في مواجهة التحديات العالمية الراهنة، حال حصوله على ثقة الدول الأعضاء.
وأكد، أن العالم بحاجة إلى أمم متحدة أكثر فاعلية واستجابة للمتغيرات الدولية، قادرة على مواكبة التحديات المتسارعة.
Senegal is pushing Macky Sall towards the United Nations.
أعلنت الحكومة السنغالية دعمها الرسمي لترشيح الرئيس السابق ماكي سال لمنصب الأمين العام للأمم المتحدة، في خطوة تستهدف حشد التأييد الدولي لوصول شخصية سنغالية إلى أعلى منصب إداري في المنظمة الأممية.
The Senegalese Ministry of African Integration and Foreign Affairs said in a statement issued on Monday that the decision to support Macky Sall's candidacy came after a meeting between current President Bassirou Diomêne Faye and the former president on July 17 at the presidential palace, in what it described as an atmosphere of dialogue, continuity of state institutions and national unity.
The nomination was given a national character.
The statement explained that President Basirou Diomaye Faye decided to give the nomination a national character, directing the government and all Senegalese diplomatic missions to begin the necessary moves with the member states of the United Nations, with the aim of rallying support for Macky Sall’s nomination during the next stage.
The Senegalese president called on various political forces, state institutions and sectors of society to rally around this initiative, considering it an opportunity to strengthen the African presence within international organizations and to support a more inclusive and balanced international system of representation.
The Senegalese government confirmed that this nomination reflects Dakar’s ambition to have a former Senegalese president assume the position of Secretary-General of the United Nations, as well as reaffirming its commitment to supporting increased African representation in international institutions and bodies.
Macky Sall is one of the most prominent African leaders.
Macky Sall is considered one of the most prominent African leaders of the last decade, having served as President of Senegal between 2012 and 2024, and also as President of the African Union, before leaving office following the presidential elections that saw power transferred to the current President, Bassirou Diomae Faye.
