Uganda's ruling National Resistance Movement has announced its full readiness for the swearing-in ceremony of President-elect Yoweri Museveni, scheduled for May 12 at Kololo Square. The celebration In the capital, Kampala, amid confirmation of broad international participation.

During a press conference at the Ugandan Media Center, the movement's Secretary-General, Richard Tudwong, confirmed that preparations had reached an advanced stage, noting close coordination between the party and the government through the National Committee. International participation and prominent African parties

Authorities revealed that at least 30 international delegations have confirmed their attendance at the inauguration ceremony, indicating regional and international interest in the event.

The movement also extended invitations to a number of African and international political parties, including the African National Congress, the Mozambique Liberation Front (FRELIMO), the Tanzanian Revolutionary Party, the Rwandan Patriotic Front (NKOTANI), and the Communist Party of China.

Public holiday and extensive security reinforcements

The Ugandan government declared May 12 a national holiday, underscoring the importance of the occasion. Meanwhile, Minister of Presidential Affairs Millie Baberi Babalanda confirmed that the National Organizing Committee, chaired by Lucy Nakyobi, had finalized most of the logistical and diplomatic arrangements.

Security measures have also been tightened in the capital Kampala and surrounding areas, where the Ugandan police force is leading a multi-agency security operation, with the participation of the army and counter-terrorism units.

Election results reinforce the ruling party's dominance

President Museveni won a new term with 71.65% of the vote, while his party achieved a landslide victory in the parliamentary and local elections, winning 372 out of 529 seats, in addition to broad control over local governments.

Tudong described these results as an “overall victory” reflecting the Ugandan people’s confidence in the party’s leadership, stressing that the next phase will see the completion of development programs.

National program and parallel events to celebrate

The inauguration ceremony is scheduled to include a series of swearing-in ceremonies for members of parliament and heads of local governments.

Days of thanksgiving prayer have also been designated nationwide, including Friday for Muslims, Saturday for Seventh-day Adventists, and Sunday for Christians.

The government called on citizens to participate widely in the celebrations, while maintaining calm and discipline, noting that all necessary arrangements have been made, including services and refreshments for attendees.

Emphasis on stability and continuity

The government confirmed that approximately 88% of its 2021-2026 program has been implemented, with the expectation that the remaining objectives will be completed during the new term, provided that political stability and popular support continue.

The upcoming inauguration ceremony is seen as an important political milestone in Uganda, reflecting the ruling regime's continued control of the political scene, amid an international presence that reflects the country's importance on the African stage.
