Eid al-Adha in Burkina Faso: Imam Abdoulaye Ouédraogo calls for unity and solidarity

Muslims in Burkina Faso celebrated Eid al-Adha on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, in a uniquely spiritual atmosphere, dominated by calls for peace, national unity, and strengthening social cohesion, in light of the security conditions the country has been experiencing in recent years.
The capital, Ouagadougou, witnessed hundreds of worshippers flocking to the Nation Square to participate in the grand Eid prayer, which was led by Sheikh Abdullah Ouedraogo, amidst a large presence of citizens who were keen to celebrate the religious occasion in an atmosphere of brotherhood and solidarity.
Calls for cohesion and unity
During the Eid sermon, Imam Abdoulaye Ouédraogo focused on Islamic values calling for unity, tolerance and solidarity, stressing that Burkinabe society today needs more than ever to strengthen the spirit of brotherhood and peaceful coexistence among its various components.

The imam said that Islam calls on Muslims to be “as one family,” stressing the importance of showing mercy and good treatment and rejecting division and hatred, so that peace may prevail within society.
He added that the current challenges require concerted efforts among all citizens to maintain stability and strengthen the spirit of national solidarity, especially in light of the security situation in some areas.
Messages of support for the fighting forces
During his sermon, the Imam also made sure to send messages of support and prayers to the fighting forces involved in efforts to reclaim the land and confront armed groups, praying to God to protect the country and restore security and stability to it.
He also offered his blessings to the authorities in Burkina Faso, expressing his hope that the country would witness a new phase of peace, development and national unity.
Spiritual atmosphere and popular hopes
Following the prayer, the worshippers exchanged greetings on the occasion of Eid al-Adha, amidst a spiritual atmosphere that reflected the Burkinabe people’s adherence to religious and social values that promote coexistence and harmony among members of society.
Many citizens hope that such religious occasions will contribute to promoting a culture of dialogue and peace, and support efforts to achieve security and stability throughout the country.
