President Sisi meets Trump on the sidelines of the G7 summit

President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi met today in the French city of Evian with President Donald Trump, President of the United States of America, on the sidelines of the G7 summit held in the French city of Evian.
The official spokesman for the Presidency of the Republic stated that the meeting addressed the distinguished bilateral relations between Egypt and the United States of America, as the President was keen to extend his congratulations to the American President on the occasion of the approaching celebration of the 250th anniversary of the independence of the United States of America.

He affirmed Egypt’s keenness to continue to advance and develop the existing strategic partnership between Egypt and the United States in various fields, taking into account what these established relations represent as a pillar of regional stability and peace, which the American president appreciated, stressing his country’s aspiration to continue strengthening Egyptian-American relations and moving them to broader horizons in various fields.
In this context, it was agreed to intensify the existing political consultation and coordination between the two countries on various issues in order to promote peace and prosperity in the region.
Ambassador Mohamed El Shenawy, the official spokesperson, indicated that the meeting also touched on regional issues, as the President congratulated the US President on the success of his efforts in reaching an agreement with Iran, stressing the importance of the agreement paving the way for ending the war and escalation in the Middle East region, reflecting the US President’s ability to end conflicts around the world.

President Sisi indicated Egypt’s readiness to exert all efforts, in cooperation with regional and international partners, to support this effort and reach sustainable solutions to the various outstanding issues.
The official spokesperson stated that the US President, for his part, appreciated the pivotal role played by Egypt, and the President personally, in supporting the negotiation process and halting the escalation in the region, stressing his aspiration to continue the close coordination between the two countries in order to support regional peace and stability.
The official spokesperson added that the President expressed his hope that the next phase would witness concerted efforts to resolve the various conflicts in the Middle East region, foremost among them the Palestinian issue, noting that its resolution is fundamental and essential for achieving lasting peace and stability in the region.
He also affirmed Egypt’s keenness to continue coordinating with the American side in order to push for the implementation of all the provisions of President Trump’s peace plan in the Gaza Strip, as well as to work towards restoring calm and stability in the region.
The official spokesperson indicated that the two presidents also discussed the water issue, with the president stressing the utmost importance of the Nile River issue as a matter of national security for Egypt, expressing his appreciation for President Trump’s interest in this pivotal issue for Egypt.
For his part, President Trump affirmed his understanding of all Egyptian concerns in this regard, and stressed that he would give this issue the highest priority in order to resolve it fairly.
