While football fans believe that having a match ticket is the only key to entering stadiums, dozens of fans found themselves stuck outside the stands despite spending hundreds, even thousands, of dollars to attend World Cup matches.
Fake tickets prevent fans from attending World Cup matches
As the starting whistle blew, signaling the start of the anticipated confrontation, these players were engaged in a different kind of battle with electronic tickets that did not grant them entry, in an incident that raised widespread questions about the reliability of ticket resale platforms and the risks of relying on them during the world's biggest football event.

The experience of attending World Cup matches turned from a long-awaited dream into a frustrating nightmare for a number of football fans in the American city of Atlanta, after the tickets they bought online failed to give them the right to enter the stadium.
Fans paid thousands of dollars but were denied entry to the stadium
According to the Associated Press, more than 12 fans were left outside the stadium gates at the start of the Spain-Cape Verde match, despite having paid large sums of money for tickets, in some cases thousands of dollars, through online ticket resale platforms, including StubHub and SeatGeek.

Among those affected was Surener Baudel, who spent over $1,400 on tickets for his wife and two daughters. He said he bought the tickets about six months ago and received his seat details, but he was unable to obtain the barcode needed to enter the stadium.
Baudel explained that he received all the booking details normally, but was surprised that the electronic access code did not appear, which prevented him and his family from attending the match despite having paid tickets.

For her part, Jeanne Baudel, Suriner’s daughter, confirmed that dozens of fans faced the same problem, noting that many of them were unable to log into the ticketing apps or access the barcodes required to enter the stadium.
Another fan, named Bina Ramrup, also expressed her shock after being denied entry, despite having purchased the tickets as a special gift for members of her family, stressing that what happened spoiled an occasion she had been looking forward to for a long time.

While fans tried to contact customer service for quick solutions, the match had already started, prompting many of them to follow the events from outside the stadium.

The incident has raised growing concerns about the risks of buying tickets for major tournaments through third-party resale platforms, especially given the repeated complaints from fans about problems with the delivery or activation of electronic tickets before matches.
