Egypt and Angola strengthen cooperation in the pharmaceutical field.

Transfer of expertise and strengthening of partnership between the two countries in the health sector

Ambassador Nevin El-Husseini, Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to the Republic of Angola, met with Ambassador Domingos Custódio Vieira Lopes, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for International Cooperation and Angolan Communities, accompanied by a delegation of experts from Pharco Pharmaceuticals.

The meeting addressed ways to enhance Egyptian-Angolan cooperation in the pharmaceutical field, and explored opportunities to benefit from Egyptian expertise to support efforts to develop the pharmaceutical supply, production and distribution system in Angola, in order to support the health sector and enhance its capabilities.

Angola is the second largest Portuguese-speaking country in terms of total area and population after Brazil, and the fifth largest country in Africa.

Expanding areas of cooperation with the Angolan side

The Pharco Pharmaceuticals delegation reviewed existing cooperation opportunities in the Angolan market, emphasizing the company’s interest in strengthening its presence and expanding areas of cooperation with the Angolan side, in light of the agreements recently signed between the Egyptian Drug Authority and the Angolan Drug Control Authority, which supports the transfer of expertise and strengthens the partnership between the two countries in the health sector.

The Drug Authority signed Egyptian Last December, a memorandum of understanding was signed with the Angolan Medicines Regulatory Agency (ARMED), on the sidelines of the meetings of the Egyptian-Angolan Joint Committee held in Luanda from December 10 to 12, 2025.

During the meeting, the Egyptian ambassador emphasized the depth of the historical relations and bonds of friendship that unite Egypt and Angola. She appreciated the growing momentum in bilateral relations in light of the exchange of high-level visits between the two countries, stressing the importance of building on the outcomes of the first session of the Egyptian-Angolan Joint Committee, which was held in December 2015, and working to activate and implement the signed agreements and memoranda of understanding in a way that serves common interests.

It is worth mentioning that last April, Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population, received Angolan President Joao Lourenço, his wife and the accompanying delegation, at the Egyptian pharmaceutical city “Geptu Pharma” as part of his official visit program to Egypt.

The visit included discussions on ways of joint cooperation in the field of pharmaceutical exports to Angola and the possibility of establishing specialized Egyptian factories in Angola, which would contribute to providing medicine at reasonable prices for citizens. The visit included a comprehensive inspection tour inside the city’s facilities and the various production lines, and the stages of manufacturing all pharmaceutical preparations were reviewed.
