African Development Bank meetings focus on infrastructure and climate action

An official delegation from the country is participating South Sudan The African Development Bank’s annual meetings, which kicked off in Brazzaville, the capital of the Republic of Congo, and will continue from May 25 to 29, 2026, saw wide participation from leaders of financial institutions, decision-makers and development partners from across the African continent.

The South Sudanese delegation includes the Governor of the Bank of South Sudan, Johnny Ohisa Damian, and the Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning, Thuc Truk, who are participating in a series of high-level sessions and discussions addressing the most prominent economic and developmental issues facing African countries at the present time.

This year’s meetings will focus on sustainable economic growth, infrastructure project financing, climate action, and expanding access to energy, as well as exploring mechanisms to support African economies in the face of increasing global challenges, including the repercussions of inflation, rising financing costs, and climate change.

The meetings saw a strong presence of finance ministers, central bank governors, and representatives of international and regional financial institutions, as well as development partners and the private sector, as part of the African Development Bank’s efforts to promote economic integration and drive investment and development on the continent.

The forum also included the launch of the Africa Economic Outlook 2026 report, which reviews economic growth indicators in African countries, the challenges related to debt and development, as well as the opportunities available to promote investment, create jobs and achieve inclusive development.

The sessions discussed the importance of regional cooperation among African countries in the areas of trade, energy and infrastructure, with a focus on the need to enhance funding directed towards development projects capable of creating jobs for young people and stimulating the green economy.

South Sudan’s participation comes as the government seeks to expand its economic and financial partnerships with regional and international institutions, and to attract more investments to support development and reconstruction projects and improve basic services.

Observers believe that the African Development Bank’s annual meetings represent an important platform for African countries to coordinate economic policies, exchange experiences, and discuss common challenges, especially in light of the growing need for sustainable financing that supports economic growth and promotes stability on the continent.
