Coordinated attacks: Malian army thwarts attempt to breach strategic sites
Simultaneous attacks target Katie, Sinu, and Safari

The Malian armed forces thwarted a series of coordinated and complex attacks that targeted sensitive sites in Kati and Sinou within the Bamako region, as well as Sévaré in the center of the country, within a few hours.
According to initial assessments, the attacks aimed to confuse the security landscape by putting pressure on more than one front at the same time.
Rapid response and protection of the biosphere
The military confirmed that the response was immediate, with tactical reinforcements to secure strategic perimeters and prevent any attempt to infiltrate urban or military areas.
Initial data indicates that the main attacking elements have been neutralized, while combing operations continue to clear the remaining pockets and ensure the safety of civilians.

Field account of explosions near Katy base
Reuters quoted a witness who heard two loud explosions and heavy gunfire early Saturday morning near the main military base in Kati, where soldiers were deployed and roads in the area were closed. So far, no one has claimed responsibility, and the nature of the explosions remains unclear.
A complex security context since the 2020 and 2021 coups
Military leaders have been in power in Mali since two coups in 2020 and 2021, pledging to restore security in a country whose northern and central regions have seen frequent activity by armed groups.
Bamako is facing overlapping insurgencies, from groups linked to al-Qaeda and the Islamic State in West Africa, along with a long-running rebellion led by Tuareg factions in the north.
Escalating attacks in the Sahel region
These developments are part of a wave of coordinated attacks in the countries of the African Sahel Confederation, which includes Burkina Faso, Niger, and Mali, where the pace of armed operations has increased since 2023, with the adoption of simultaneous pressure tactics on more than one location.
Dynamic security partnerships and contacts with Washington
Meanwhile, Bamako turned to Russian military contractors to bolster its security efforts after cooperation with some Western partners cooled. In a significant development, reports in March indicated that Mali and the United States were nearing an agreement that would allow the resumption of US aircraft and drone flights over Malian airspace to gather intelligence on the movements of extremist groups.
High alert and ongoing search operations
The military command confirms that the level of alert remains at its highest, with continued combing operations in Kati, Sinu and Sevare.
While investigations continue to identify the perpetrators and their routes, authorities stress that thwarting the attacks reflects the ability to quickly deter them, at a time when the security front remains open to complex regional challenges.
