Egypt seeks to enhance cooperation with the United Nations and exchange views on regional and international issues.

Abdel-Aati's meeting with the UN Secretary-General

Dr. Badr Abdel-Aty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptians Abroad, received Amina Mohammed, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, on Saturday. The meeting addressed ways to enhance cooperation between Egypt and the United Nations, and exchanged views on the most prominent regional and international issues.

Minister Abdel-Aty praised the close partnership between Egypt and the United Nations, stressing Egypt’s unwavering support for the multilateral international system and its commitment to international law and the UN Charter. He also commended the courageous stances of UN Secretary-General António Guterres and his deputy, Amina Mohammed, in leading the UN organization and fulfilling their mandate to defend the UN Charter and address violations of international law.

The Foreign Minister commended the role of the United Nations in maintaining international peace and security, emphasizing the importance of respecting international law, international humanitarian law, and international human rights law in all conflicts, particularly in light of ongoing Israeli violations in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. Minister Abdel-Aty reviewed Egypt's efforts to contain regional crises and de-escalate tensions, stressing the importance of strengthening multilateral action, supporting political and diplomatic solutions to conflicts, and intensifying international cooperation to address global challenges, thereby contributing to the consolidation of security and stability and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Developing the United Nations system

The meeting addressed ways to develop the United Nations system to keep pace with international changes, as Minister Abdel-Aty stressed that Egypt adopts a comprehensive vision for reforming the United Nations and enhancing the ability of international financing institutions and multilateral development banks to provide accessible and sustainable financing for developing countries, and to work on addressing the debt crisis, in order to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and support climate action efforts without imposing additional burdens on developing countries.

For her part, Ms. Amina Mohammed expressed her appreciation for Egypt's pivotal role in supporting the United Nations' efforts at the regional and international levels, commending Egypt's active contribution within its regional spheres to conflict resolution and stability, in addition to Egypt's role in UN peacekeeping and humanitarian work. The UN Deputy Secretary-General affirmed the organization's commitment to further strengthening cooperation with Egypt in various fields.
