South Sudan and Uganda discuss strengthening border trade and economic cooperation.

Border trade and economic cooperation

South Sudan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ambassador Mandi Semayah Kumba, received today, Monday, at his office, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Regional Cooperation of the Republic of Uganda, John Mulimba, as part of efforts to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.

Historical relations and established partnership

During the bilateral talks, both sides affirmed the strength of the historical relations and the established partnership that unites South Sudan and Uganda. They also exchanged views on a number of issues of common interest, including border trade, economic cooperation, and high-level exchanges of visits.

The South Sudanese Foreign Minister also briefed his Ugandan counterpart on the latest political developments in the country, in addition to discussing other issues of common interest.

Cooperation and coordination between the two countries

For his part, the Ugandan minister expressed his appreciation for the warm welcome and hospitality he and his accompanying delegation received in South Sudan, stressing the importance of continuing cooperation and coordination between the two countries in various fields in a way that serves common interests and enhances development priorities.

South Sudan and Uganda have close ties that extend back a long history and include strong security and economic cooperation, despite intermittent border tensions.

Uganda is a key ally of the Juba government and hosts a large number of South Sudanese refugees, while Uganda is a vital source of goods and trade for South Sudan, and the two countries are linked by efforts to promote regional integration.
