Egypt and Zimbabwe discuss strengthening cooperation in infrastructure, construction and building

Cairo strengthens its presence in Africa through new development partnerships in Zimbabwe

Ambassador Dr. Maha Serag El-Din, Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Zimbabwe, discussed with Zimbabwean Minister of Local Development and Public Works Daniel Garwe ways to expand bilateral cooperation between the two countries in a number of vital sectors, most notably construction and infrastructure, in addition to strengthening cooperation in the areas of crisis management and dealing with emergencies and natural disasters.

During the meeting, the two sides reviewed opportunities for joint cooperation in implementing development projects aimed at supporting urban development plans and infrastructure development in Zimbabwe, thereby contributing to improved public services and enhanced efficiency of essential facilities. They also discussed the possibility of leveraging Egypt's accumulated expertise in implementing major national projects across the African continent.

Ambassador Dr. Maha Serageldin affirmed Egypt’s keenness to support economic and development partnerships with Zimbabwe, noting that Egyptian companies possess extensive experience in the fields of contracting and infrastructure, and have succeeded in implementing major projects in a number of African countries over the past years, making them a reliable partner in regional development projects.

The ambassador explained that Cairo is looking forward to opening up wider fields for Egyptian companies to work within the Zimbabwean market, through establishing strategic partnerships with the local side, in a way that achieves the common interests of the two countries and contributes to supporting sustainable development.

For his part, Zimbabwean Minister of Local Development and Public Works Daniel Garwe expressed his great appreciation for the advanced Egyptian expertise in the fields of construction, building and urban development, praising the distinguished reputation of Egyptian companies across the African continent, and the tangible successes they have achieved in implementing infrastructure projects in many countries.

The Zimbabwean minister affirmed his country’s desire to enhance cooperation with Egypt in these areas and to benefit from the Egyptian experience in developing cities and infrastructure, noting that Zimbabwe is open to establishing new partnerships with the Egyptian private sector to implement major development projects.

The meeting also addressed the importance of exchanging experiences in the field of crisis and disaster management, stressing the need to enhance coordination between the two sides in this vital area, in order to improve the readiness of government institutions to deal with emergencies.

This meeting comes within the framework of the two countries’ efforts to enhance bilateral cooperation and open new horizons for economic and development partnership, reflecting the depth of Egyptian-African relations and the keenness of both sides to push them towards greater integration in the coming period.
