Egypt and Cameroon reaffirm their commitment to supporting peace and strengthening joint cooperation.

Cameroonian Embassy celebrates the country's national day

Cameroon’s ambassador to Cairo, Dr. Mohamadou Labarang, affirmed that his country and Egypt continue to work together to support and promote peace, stability, and the peaceful settlement of conflicts at the regional and international levels.

This came during the speech delivered by Ambassador Lebring on Wednesday evening, at the celebration organized by the Cameroonian Embassy in Cairo on the occasion of the National Day, in the presence of Dr. Jehan Zaki, Minister of Culture, representing Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Deputy Foreign Minister Ambassador Mohamed Abu Bakr, Ambassador Karim Sherif, Assistant Foreign Minister for African Affairs, along with a number of Egyptian officials and ambassadors accredited to Egypt.

The Cameroonian ambassador praised the historical relations that unite the two countries in various fields, stressing the importance of continuing to strengthen economic cooperation, noting in this context the presence of a number of Egyptian companies operating in Cameroon.

He explained that Cameroon, which is celebrating its national day, reaffirmed its commitment to democracy and pluralism by holding elections in which President Paul Biya won, noting that the elections were conducted in a peaceful atmosphere. He also pointed to the reforms that Cameroon has undergone, including the creation of the position of Vice President, and emphasized that Cameroonian diplomacy has achieved a number of successes in recent years, including the appointment of Cameroonian diplomats to high-ranking positions at the United Nations.

In closing, the Ambassador to Lebrunj expressed his thanks and appreciation, on behalf of the government and people of Cameroon, to the Prime Minister and the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Relations that Egypt cherishes

For her part, Dr. Jehan Zaki conveyed the greetings and congratulations of Dr. Mustafa Madbouly, and also congratulated the government and people of Cameroon and the members of the Cameroonian community in Egypt on the occasion of the celebration of the National Day.

The Minister of Culture affirmed Egypt’s pride in the fraternal and historical relations that bind it to Cameroon, noting that Egypt was among the first countries to recognize Cameroon’s independence in 1960.

She added that the two countries have strong relations in the political, diplomatic, economic and cultural fields, expressing Egypt’s hope for high-level participation from the Cameroonian side in the African Union Coordination Summit scheduled to be held in El Alamein next June.

Zaki stressed Egypt’s keenness to enhance cultural cooperation with Cameroon, especially in the fields of heritage, arts, and cultural and creative industries, based on Cairo’s belief in the role of culture in promoting rapprochement between peoples.

She also noted that her academic experience allowed her to teach and supervise African students and researchers, including students from Cameroon, considering that this role has a humanitarian dimension in addition to its academic responsibility.

The Minister of Culture touched on the role of sports, especially football, in supporting relations between the two countries, noting that a number of Egyptian clubs have included prominent Cameroonian players who have become part of the memory of Egyptian sports and have contributed to strengthening the bonds of friendship between the two peoples.

In closing, Zaki reiterated Egypt’s congratulations to the government and people of Cameroon on the occasion of the National Day, expressing her wishes for further progress and prosperity in Egyptian-Cameroonian relations in the coming period.
