On Saturday, June 20, 2026, the Minister of State of Mali, Minister of Reconciliation, Peace and National Cohesion, General Ismail Wague, participated in the celebration of the National Day of Muslim Unity at the Amadou Hampaté Ba Cultural Center, along with the Minister of Religious Affairs, Worship and Customs, Mohamedou Koné.
This day, organized by the Supreme Islamic Council of Mali, aims to promote cohesion among the country’s various religious communities through mutual understanding, restoring trust, and strengthening social ties while respecting diversity.
The role of religion in preserving national unity
This gathering was held under the slogan “The role and place of religion in the pursuit of dialogue, solidarity and the preservation of national unity,” and brought together thousands of Muslims from across the country to pray for peace, stability and harmony in Mali.

In a context marked by security, economic, and social challenges, this initiative presented an exceptional opportunity for reflection and contemplation, and for strengthening national unity. Through this movement, the leaders of the High Islamic Council of Mali emphasized the pivotal role of faith, dialogue, and solidarity in consolidating national unity and social cohesion.
Mali is reconciled with all religions
On this occasion, it was reiterated that the Malian state harbors no animosity towards any religion. The fight waged by the authorities is directed exclusively against insecurity, violent extremism, and all threats that could jeopardize peace, stability, and national cohesion.
The shared ambition remains clear: to establish lasting peace among all the sons and daughters of Mali, to restore trust among citizens, and to work towards building a future based on security, dignity, justice, and inclusive and shared development.
This initiative, which was widely welcomed by all participants, is part of the dynamic of constructive dialogue, reconciliation and de-escalation adopted by the highest authorities in the country in support of a united, stable and prosperous Mali.
