Uganda hosts extraordinary summit of troop-contributing countries to the African Union Mission in Somalia

The Government of Uganda will host the Extraordinary Summit of Troop Contributing Countries to the African Union Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), from 29 to 31 July 2026 in the capital, Kampala.
The summit proceedings will be held at the Speck Resort – Monyonio, starting on Wednesday, July 29 with a meeting of Chiefs of Defense Staff, followed by a meeting of Defense Ministers on Thursday, July 30, and concluding on July 31 with a summit of Heads of State and Government.
The summit is scheduled to be attended by leaders of the countries contributing troops to the mission: Burundi, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Egypt, Kenya, Uganda, and Somalia.
Maintaining the path to achieving stability in Somalia
A number of senior United Nations officials will also be in attendance, including the Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations, the Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Somalia, and the Head of the United Nations Support Office in Somalia (UNSOS).
The African Union will be represented by the Chairperson of the Commission, the Commissioner for Peace and Security, the Special Representative of the Chairperson of the Commission in Somalia and the Head of the AUSSOM Mission.
The Deputy Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) will also participate, underscoring the important regional role the organization plays in supporting peace and security in Somalia.
This year's conference is being held under the theme: "Maintaining the path to achieving stability in Somalia".
Uganda affirmed its pride in hosting this event, reiterating its firm commitment to supporting peace, security and stability in the region under the umbrella of the African Union, and in cooperation with the United Nations, IGAD and other international partners.
