On the International Day of UN Peacekeepers, which falls on May 29th each year, the Arab Republic of Egypt reaffirms its pride in the historic and pioneering role played by UN peacekeeping operations. The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that while Egypt honors the memory of those who lost their lives while performing their duty, it affirms its firm commitment to continuing to actively contribute to international peacekeeping efforts, consolidating the foundations of security and stability, and supporting peaceful solutions to conflicts, in a way that contributes to achieving sustainable development and building a more secure and prosperous future for all peoples.

Egypt is one of the largest contributors of military and police forces to missions.

Egypt is one of the largest contributors of military and police forces to United Nations missions, having provided more than 30,000 personnel in 38 UN missions since 1960. Over the past decades, Egypt has provided members of the armed forces and police who have bravely participated in highly complex security and humanitarian environments.

In November 2018, Egypt held a high-level international conference in Cairo to improve the performance of peacekeeping operations. This was the first conference of its kind since the launch of the initiative and resulted in the “Cairo Roadmap,” which includes an action plan and a balanced implementation framework for the shared commitments of the Secretary-General’s initiative, endorsed by the African Union in 2020.

Since 1960, it has contributed to more than 38 UN missions with more than 30,000 peacekeeping troops deployed in 24 countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America and Europe.

Egypt is the sixth largest contributor of uniformed personnel to UN peacekeeping operations, deploying more than 2,800 army and police personnel to UN peacekeeping operations in Abyei, the Central African Republic, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Mali, South Sudan, and Western Sahara.
