Kenya is moving to complete a stalled housing project as part of its affordable housing plans.

The Ministry of Housing announced in Kenya She has taken over the completion of a stalled housing project belonging to the Kenya Railways Corporation, comprising 900 housing units in the Kibra district of the capital, Nairobi, in a move aimed at accelerating the implementation of housing projects and improving the standard of living for residents.

Completion of stalled housing units

The ministry confirmed that the project, which had been stalled for some time, will be fully completed under its direct supervision, and that the housing units will be allocated to the residents of Kibra within a framework Affordable Housing Program. This program aims to provide affordable housing for low-income groups, while improving living conditions in densely populated urban areas.

Expanding the project by adding 3000 new units

In a related context, the government announced a plan to develop an additional 3,000 housing units on the same land belonging to the Kenya Railways Corporation in Kibra, reflecting a strategic direction towards expanding affordable housing. This expansion is expected to contribute to reducing the housing crisis in the region, in addition to supporting urban transformation and improving urban planning in the capital, Nairobi.

Transforming Kibra into a modern urban area

Through these projects, the government seeks to transform Kibra into a modern residential area with integrated infrastructure and improved basic services. This comes within a broader vision to develop informal settlements and integrate them into the modern urban fabric, thereby promoting social justice and sustainable development.

Strengthening the education sector in the region

As part of efforts to improve community services, eight new classrooms were delivered at the Rayla Learning Centre within Kibra. This initiative aims to support the education sector and alleviate pressure on schools, ensuring a better learning environment for students.

These initiatives underscore the Kenyan government’s commitment to continuing infrastructure development and enhancing access to housing and education, thereby improving the quality of life for citizens and achieving comprehensive development.
