From Türkiye to Chad: How is the Gaziantep model paving the way for a revolution in the meat industry in Djermaya?

Practical steps to develop the livestock sector

Written by Omnia Hassan

Chad is accelerating its steps towards modernizing the livestock sector, one of the most important pillars of the national economy, by taking advantage of Turkish industrial expertise in the field of meat processing.

In this context, the Minister of Livestock and Animal Production, Abdul Rahim Awad Al-Tayeb, is continuing a working visit to Türkiye to learn about the latest technologies used in this vital sector.

The visit included a field tour inside a number of advanced industrial slaughterhouses in the city of Gaziantep, accompanied by officials from “Tana Group/Kantik”, the implementing partner of the industrial complex project for the exploitation of ruminants in the Germaya region, which represents one of the most prominent strategic projects in the country.

Access to the latest slaughtering and processing technologies

The tour focused on learning about the work system within modern slaughterhouses, starting from slaughtering and processing operations, through health and safety systems and quality control, up to the industrial technologies that ensure highly efficient production according to international standards.

This visit aims to transfer Turkish expertise and benefit from successful experiences in developing the infrastructure of the meat sector in Chad, which will contribute to raising production efficiency, improving the quality of local products and increasing their competitiveness in regional and international markets.

Jarmaya Complex is a strategic project to maximize added value.

The Djermaia Industrial Complex project is one of the projects that the Chadian government relies on to enhance the economic benefit from livestock, by transforming it from a mere raw resource into manufactured products with added value, which supports food industries and opens new horizons for exports.

The project is also expected to contribute to job creation, encourage investment in meat-related industries, and support efforts to achieve food security and diversify national income sources.

A new stop in Antalya to continue the talks

The Chadian mission is scheduled to complete its program in Antalya, where it will hold a series of technical, administrative and financial meetings with the contracting company to review the project's implementation aspects, follow up on the stages of completion, and finalize the plans related to the start of operations.

These moves reflect Chad’s commitment to building a modern meat industry based on technology and international expertise, thereby strengthening the livestock sector’s position as a driver of economic development and an important contributor to sustainable growth in the coming years.
