With 441 votes, Oboth won the election held in Kololo Ceremonial Square in the Ugandan capital, Kampala, where He was officially elected Speaker of the Twelfth Parliament of Uganda during the first session held on May 25, 2026, succeeding former Speaker of Parliament Anita Annette Amonge.

Kololo Square is the main venue for official state events, major national celebrations such as Independence Day and presidential inauguration ceremonies, as well as international exhibitions and conferences.

In his remarks during the session, President Museveni noted that the voting process was transparent and peaceful, and congratulated the new parliamentary leaders in their offices.

The session, which was attended by President Yoweri Museveni, reinstated Thomas Taibua to his position as deputy speaker of parliament.

He announced his administration of the legislative institution based on seven fundamental pillars, foremost among them being combating corruption and initiating accountability from within Parliament itself; strengthening accountability and activating strict, real-time oversight of how public resources are spent; activating evidence-based debates to improve the quality of legislation and move away from empty political arguments; a people-centered parliament aimed at bringing laws and legislation closer to the daily needs of Ugandan citizens; a results-based budget by linking government budgets to the extent to which they achieve tangible results on the ground; an open parliament by establishing a professional and transparent relationship with the media, considering journalists as "the eyes and mind of the public"; and finally, proactive oversight and not waiting for crises to occur.

Furthermore, the rise of “Oboth-Oboth” represents a strong desire on the part of the ruling party to impose a state of financial and legislative discipline within the new parliament, taking advantage of his legal references and long experience in parliamentary work.
