Ethiopia has experienced a sharp rise in Fuel prices During the month of May, in a move that reflects increasing pressure on public finances and a clear shift towards aligning domestic prices with global trends.

Gasoline and diesel prices have risen at varying rates, while kerosene and jet fuel prices have increased in just one month.
The price of jet fuel jumped from 150.48 bar to 319.76 bar, and the price of kerosene rose from 151.39 bar per liter on April 1 to 320.66, an increase of 112%, km.
Gasoline recorded 167.50 %, rising by 17.6 %, and the price of white diesel rose by 10.7 % to 180.44, with a slight increase in diesel types.

Regarding the exchange rate, the Ethiopian birr was recorded at 153.4699 against the dollar in government banks, and reached 154.26 in private banks.
These jumps are the most striking because they are linked to the cost of living in those rural areas. These increases fall under the periodic pricing mechanism that the government has been implementing since December 2022, which is linked to local prices and global changes.
