Somalia requests to benefit from the Egyptian experience in health insurance and digital transformation.

Cooperation between Somalia and Egypt

Dr. Hisham Steit, Chairman of the Egyptian Authority for Unified Procurement, Medical Supply and Management of Medical Technology, received Dr. Ali Haji Adam, Minister of Health and Community Welfare of the Republic of Somalia, and his accompanying delegation, on the sidelines of the fifth edition of the African Health Conference and Exhibition «Africa Health ExCon 2026».

Dr. Hisham Stet welcomed the Somali delegation, stressing the Authority’s keenness to support and enhance aspects of cooperation and trade exchange between the Egyptian and Somali sides, especially in the areas of purchasing medicines and medical supplies.

The Somali Minister of Health praises the quality of Egyptian medical services and calls for enhanced cooperation.

For his part, Dr. Ali Haji Adam praised Egypt’s great potential in the field of healthcare, stressing his country’s keenness to encourage medical tourism to Egypt, given the high-quality medical services it provides at a reasonable cost, in addition to the high quality and efficiency of Egyptian medical and pharmaceutical products, also praising Egypt’s historical and pivotal role in supporting African countries.

The Somali Minister of Health explained that his country is currently working on developing the health system by establishing a number of new bodies, including a health insurance authority, which will contribute to enhancing the efficiency and sustainability of health services, expressing his hope to benefit from the Egyptian experience in this regard.

Dr. Ali Haji Adam also called for strengthening cooperation with Egypt in the areas of training and capacity building, with the aim of supporting health personnel and developing the health system, in addition to benefiting from Egyptian expertise in the field of digital transformation and digital health systems, while Dr. Hisham Steit welcomed joint cooperation in the areas of training and qualification and the exchange of technical and technological expertise.

The Somali side expressed great interest in the new strategic medical warehouses, stressing that they represent a promising model for supporting health security and health sovereignty in the African continent, given their important role in ensuring the sustainability of medical supplies and raising the efficiency of health systems.
