The construction project of the Legouima stadium in Bobo-Dioulasso, Guérico Province, Burkina Faso, has witnessed remarkable progress, with the completion rate of the works reaching approximately 85%, as confirmed by Burkinabe Prime Minister Rimetalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo during an inspection visit to the site on Sunday, June 21, 2026.
The visit aimed to assess firsthand the progress of work at this major sports facility, which the Burkinabe authorities rely on to enhance the country's ability to host national, continental and international sports competitions.
The project supervisors explained that the remaining work is mainly focused on the official runway, particularly completing the separation systems and managing the movement of officials, media personnel, and VIP and VVIP personnel, ensuring full compliance with the approved regulatory standards.

During his tour, the Prime Minister commended the pace of the project's implementation, urging all stakeholders to redouble their efforts to meet deadlines and ensure the highest standards of quality and safety. He also stressed the importance of avoiding any observations or reservations during the accreditation and certification phases by the relevant sports authorities.
Wedraogo said it was not yet time to celebrate the project's completion, noting that challenges remained, especially with the onset of the rainy season, which could affect the pace of work during the final phase.

The Prime Minister affirmed that the Legouema stadium represents a strategic and structural investment in the development of Burkinabe sports, explaining that this modern facility embodies the vision of the country’s president, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, within the framework of the progressive popular revolution project aimed at making sports a productive sector that contributes to economic development.
He added that the goal is not limited to providing a space for practicing sports, but extends to building an integrated sports industry capable of creating economic opportunities and enhancing Burkina Faso’s position on the African sports scene.

The Prime Minister also called on the relevant authorities to take the necessary measures to define the perimeter of the stadium and establish a special security zone around it to ensure the safety of the facility and its users.
The Legwema Stadium is being built according to CAF and FIFA Category 3 standards, with a capacity of up to 15,000 spectators. It will feature prefabricated covered stands, a natural grass pitch meeting international standards, modern changing rooms, a press room, VIP areas, and comprehensive administrative and other facilities, making it one of the most prominent modern sports projects in the country.
