The statement explained that the operation was carried out at night as part of security and military coordination between the armed forces of the two countries, and targeted what it described as a “headquarters belonging to the terrorist organization,” noting that initial assessments confirm the neutralization of the targeted leader and a number of his companions.

Abu Bilal al-Manouki is a prominent leader in the Islamic State (ISIS) in the Sahel and Lake Chad Basin region, where branches linked to the organization are active in carrying out sporadic attacks against government forces and civilians.

For his part, Nigerian President Bola Ahmad Tinubu praised the security cooperation with the United States, stressing that the operation represents a “significant blow” in the fight against terrorism, while noting the continued coordination to carry out additional operations targeting what he described as ”strongholds of armed groups.”.
The operation comes at a time when the Lake Chad Basin is witnessing an escalation in the activity of armed groups, despite ongoing military operations carried out by countries in the region with international support to pursue extremist organizations.

Reports indicate that the attackers stormed Musa Primary and Secondary School on motorcycles shortly after security forces left the village on patrol Friday morning.
Musa village, which borders the infamous Sambisa Forest, is vulnerable to rebel attacks due to its remote location.
Local sources told journalists that the terrorists launched their attack just 10 to 15 minutes after the forces left the area, raising concerns that the attackers may have monitored the security forces' movements before launching the attack.
A resident of the village, Suleiman Musa, appealed via social media, saying: ”Please pray for the victims of the Boko Haram attack on Musa village. According to reports from the village, a number of schoolchildren were affected.”.
