On Africa Day, trade between Egypt and African Union countries is expected to reach $9.6 billion by 2025.

Egypt and the African continent celebrate on May 25 the 63rd edition of “Africa Day”, which coincides with the anniversary of the founding of the Organization of African Unity, which later became known as the “African Union”, a partnership that includes 55 member states with the aim of promoting social, cultural, political and economic cooperation in the continent. This year’s celebration comes under the theme ”Ensuring the availability of sustainable water and safe sanitation systems to achieve Agenda 2063“.

Coinciding with this event, the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics issued a press release on Monday, May 25, 2026, addressing the economic relations between Egypt and the African Union countries. The data showed that the value of trade exchange between Egypt and the Union countries reached $9.6 billion during 2025, compared to $9.9 billion for the previous year, 2024.

Egypt's exports to African Union countries

Egyptian exports to African Union countries reached $7.6 billion in 2025, compared to $7.8 billion in 2024. Libya topped the list of African Union countries importing from Egypt in 2025 with a value of $1.5 billion, followed by Algeria with $1.2 billion, then Morocco with $1.1 billion, followed by Sudan with $957.1 million, Tunisia with $431.3 million, Kenya with $330.6 million, Nigeria with $213.1 million, Ivory Coast with $179.5 million, South Africa with $162.9 million, and finally Somalia with $134.8 million.

The most important commodity groups exported to African Union countries during 2025

• Electrical machinery and equipment worth $633.6 million.
• Plastics and plastic products worth $544.4 million.
• Iron and steel worth $528.3 million.
• Various food preparations worth $517.8 million.
• Vegetables and fruits worth $491.4 million.
• Salt, stones and cement $446.4 million.

Egypt's imports from African Union countries

Egyptian imports from African Union countries amounted to $2 billion in 2025, compared to $2.1 billion in 2024.
The Democratic Republic of Congo topped the list of African Union countries exporting to Egypt during 2025, with Egypt's imports from it amounting to $447.4 million, followed by Sudan at $277.2 million, followed by Kenya at $264.1 million, followed by Senegal at $163.7 million, followed by South Africa at $147.4 million, followed by Guinea at $111.6 million, followed by Morocco at $74.6 million, and finally Ivory Coast at $73.5 million, which are the top countries in terms of Egypt's imports from African Union countries. .

The most important commodity groups imported from African Union countries during 2025

• Copper and its products, valued at $470.9 million.
• Fuels and mineral oils worth $323.3 million.
• Coffee, tea and spices worth $292.4 million.
• Pearls, precious stones and jewelry worth $121.4 million.
• Cars, tractors and motorcycles worth $90 million.
• Live animals worth $88.9 million.
• Grains, oilseeds and medicinal plants worth $85.5 million.
• Tobacco worth $78 million.

Transfers between Egypt and African Union countries

Data from the agency revealed that the value of remittances from Egyptians working in African Union countries amounted to $191 million during the fiscal year 2024/2025, while the value of remittances from workers from African Union countries in Egypt amounted to $26.2 million during the same period.
Investments between Egypt and African Union countries
The value of investments by African Union countries in Egypt amounted to $343 million during the fiscal year 2024/2025, while the value of Egyptian investments in African Union countries amounted to $756 million during the same period.
