Police have charged five people in connection with the seizure of a $19 million shipment of cocaine at the country's international airport, about a month after security forces intercepted the shipment.
The government also charged a logistics company with filing a false declaration regarding the shipment that contained approximately 238 kilograms of cocaine.

The case has raised questions about airport security, transnational organized crime, and the Liberian criminal justice system's responsiveness to matters of national importance.
Despite the initial celebration of this operation as one of the country's most important successes in the fight against drugs, it quickly turned into a controversy regarding governance.
For weeks after the operation, government officials repeatedly reassured the public that investigations were underway.
However, the absence of arrests and the prolonged anonymity of suspects gradually aroused suspicions. Civil society organizations and politicians began to question the lack of investigative results for a shipment of this magnitude.
