The Gambia will host the 2026 African Caucus meeting, which brings together prominent figures from the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank Group, and other relevant African stakeholders, to discuss the theme: “Transforming African Economies through Investment, Innovation, and Inclusion.”.
Gambian President Adama Barrow emphasized the importance of this meeting during the opening session, describing the hosting of the gathering as a significant gesture of partnership and a renewed affirmation of Africa's shared commitment to sustainable development.
A unique platform to discuss common African priorities
He also noted that the meeting's theme is a timely response to global uncertainty and escalating geopolitical tensions.
The President stressed that the event provides a unique platform to discuss common African priorities and renew collective resolve to address challenges such as unemployment, poverty, and climate change.

He affirmed that the Gambian government will continue its partnership with the IMF, World Bank Group, and other stakeholders to build a strong and inclusive Africa that leaves no one behind.
Enhancing cooperation and addressing pressing economic issues
On the sidelines of the opening ceremony, President Barrow held bilateral meetings with key partners, including Selma Hadidi, Vice President of the African Union Commission, Ousmane Diagana, World Bank Vice President for the Africa Region, and Zineb Zaidane, Director of the Africa Department at the International Monetary Fund.
Discussions focused on enhancing cooperation and addressing urgent economic issues facing the continent.
These meetings solidify The Gambia's position as an active and leading voice in Africa's economic transformation agenda.
