Tutankhamun and Umm Kulthum at the heart of Egypt's celebration of the July Revolution anniversary in Senegal

The Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt in the Senegalese capital, Dakar, organized a celebration to mark the National Day, commemorating the seventy-fourth anniversary of the July 23, 1952 Revolution. The event, attended by a large official, diplomatic, and cultural presence, aimed to highlight Egypt's soft power and strengthen Egyptian-Senegalese relations.
The celebration, organized by Ambassador Khaled Aref, was held inside the halls of the Museum of Civilization in Dakar. The embassy was keen to present a comprehensive picture of ancient Egyptian civilization and the achievements of the New Kingdom, in order to support efforts to promote tourism and the economy of Egypt, and to leave a positive impression on Senegalese political, cultural, and diplomatic circles.

The ceremony included a special pavilion displaying a replica of the mummy and coffin of King Tutankhamun. This model was gifted by the Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs to Senegal during his visit in July 2025, symbolizing friendship and the historical and cultural ties between the two countries. The exhibition also featured a collection of Pharaonic artifacts, Egyptian products, and handmade carpets, in addition to musical performances of national songs by Umm Kulthum, which received a wide audience engagement.

The celebration was attended by the Senegalese Minister of Higher Education, Research, and Innovation, Boubacar Camara, representing the government, alongside the Minister of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty, and Livestock, the Minister of Microfinance, Small Enterprises, Social Economy, and Solidarity, a number of senior officials, representatives of religious institutions, the United Nations, the African Union, the diplomatic corps, and the Egyptian community.
In his speech, Ambassador Khaled Arif reviewed the significance of the July 23 revolution and the role of the late President Gamal Abdel Nasser in supporting national liberation movements in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. He also praised the Senegalese democratic experience, emphasizing the strong bilateral relations and the growing cooperation in political, economic, commercial, and educational fields, in addition to the scholarships offered by Egypt to Senegalese students.

It also addressed the constants of the Egyptian position on the Palestinian issue and developments in the Middle East.
For his part, the Senegalese Minister of Higher Education described the relations between the two countries as an excellent model of African cooperation based on mutual respect and common interests, praising the role played by the Egyptian embassy in organizing cultural and artistic events, which contribute to strengthening the rapprochement between the two peoples.
The minister emphasized the importance of developing economic and investment cooperation between the two countries, and strengthening partnerships in the fields of medicine, food security, energy, and infrastructure, in a way that supports South-South cooperation and achieves sustainable development and the common interests of both countries.
