Egypt's ambassador to Liberia meets with the commissioner of the Maritime Affairs Authority

Strengthening a strategic maritime partnership

Egypt’s ambassador to Liberia, Ahmed Abdel Azim Farghali, held talks with a high-level delegation headed by the Commissioner of the Liberian Maritime Affairs Authority, Neto Zerzar Leghi, regarding strengthening maritime cooperation.

The meeting was held at the Egyptian Embassy in Liberia, where discussions focused on building an organized framework for cooperation, leveraging Egypt’s maritime expertise and Liberia’s position as the world’s largest ship registry in terms of deadweight tonnage.

Strengthening cooperation in the areas of maritime governance

Ambassador Farghali stressed the importance and role of both countries in global trade, calling for enhanced cooperation in the areas of maritime governance, security and technical development, and welcomed the Liberian delegation.

For his part, Commissioner Legh said that the Liberian Maritime Affairs Authority is ready to work with Egypt, describing it as a “maritime giant”.

He added that Liberia is keen to take advantage of Egyptian infrastructure and training institutions to enhance its operations.

Key areas of cooperation between the two countries

Key areas of cooperation between the two countries include a potential partnership related to the Suez Canal, expanding bilateral engagement, along with providing technical assistance and capacity building.

The cooperative agreement is expected to cover other areas such as port services, economic zones, and ship safety and security.

These talks reflect Liberia’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its maritime capabilities through strategic international partnerships, particularly with countries that operate vital global shipping lanes.
