Burundi’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation, and Chairman of the Executive Council of the African Union, Edward Bizimana, arrived in Addis Ababa to participate in the proceedings of the 49th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council of the African Union.

Upon his arrival at Bole International Airport, he was received by the head of the protocol department of the Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Melaku Bidada.
The session is scheduled to take place on July 28 and 29, 2026, under the theme: “Ensuring the sustainability of water availability and safe sanitation systems to achieve the goals of Agenda 2063.”.
Addis Ababa council approves draft budget of 502.3 billion birr
In a separate context, the Addis Ababa City Council held its twelfth regular meeting of the fifth year, where it discussed a number of strategic issues and made important decisions, most notably approving the draft budget for the Ethiopian fiscal year 2019 with a value of 502.27 billion birr and referring it to the City Council for final ratification.
The council stressed that the new budget focuses on implementing urban development priorities, reducing poverty, improving basic services, and supporting infrastructure projects, including roads, water, housing, sanitation, transportation, and fire and disaster prevention.
Allocating 71% of total spending to sustainable development programs
According to the decisions taken, 71% of the total spending was allocated to sustainable development and poverty reduction programs, while 29% was allocated to administrative and operational expenses.
The council also discussed a study on the potential for developing the city's revenues, and directed that further consultations be conducted with the relevant authorities to develop it, in addition to adopting regulatory bylaws relating to the evaluation and qualification of civil service employees, municipal service fees, and the allocation of land for projects of national importance.
The decisions reflect the capital's administration's direction towards promoting economic development, improving public services, and raising the efficiency of urban management during the next fiscal year.
