Relations between Egypt and Rwanda have witnessed remarkable development in recent years, within the framework of a shared vision to enhance African cooperation politically, economically and developmentally. This rapprochement reflects the two countries’ desire to build a successful model of partnerships within the continent based on mutual interests and sustainable development.

Political coordination and high-level visits

Political relations between Cairo and Kigali have been characterized by activity and dynamism, especially with the exchange of visits between the two leaderships, most notably the meetings between President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and his Rwandan counterpart Paul Kagame.

These meetings have contributed to advancing bilateral cooperation towards strategic areas including regional security, water resource management, and joint action within the African Union.

Economy and trade within a common African framework

Both countries benefit from their membership in major economic blocs such as COMESA and the African Continental Free Trade Area, which has contributed to boosting trade and facilitating the movement of goods and investments. Work is also underway to establish an Egyptian logistics zone in Rwanda to serve as a gateway for Egyptian products to East African markets.

Development, health and educational cooperation

Cooperation extends to training and capacity building through development programs, in addition to projects in the health sector and the transfer of medical expertise, as well as cooperation in education, youth empowerment and addressing climate change.

Beyond politics and economics, Egyptian-Rwandan relations have made significant progress in developmental and social fields, as the Rwandan side has benefited from the Egyptian Agency for Partnership for Development’s programs through dozens of training courses in various fields such as agriculture, health, security, and energy.
