فرضت الولايات المتحدة، عقوبات على ممول تنظيم داعش المقيم في لاغوس، مختار آدمو محمد، وثلاثة مكاتب صرافة نيجيرية، متهمة بتسهيل تمويل عمليات داعش، في جميع أنحاء غرب إفريقيا وأوروبا والشرق الأوسط وسوريا.

وأعلنت وزارة الخزانة الأمريكية، بموجب الأمر التنفيذي رقم 13224، أن الشبكة قامت بتحويل أموال لدعم هجمات تنظيم داعش وعملياته وتجنيده، بما في ذلك عبر مكاتب الصرافة في لاغوس وكانو.

وتشمل الجهات الخاضعة للعقوبات: شركة جينيريشن كارنسي للصرافة المحدودة، وشركة ناين تو ناين للصرافة المحدودة، وشركة مانهاتن للصرافة المحدودة.

وتزعم واشنطن، أن الأموال استُخدمت لتوجيهها إلى تنظيم داعش في غرب أفريقيا وفروعه الأخرى.

فيما أكّدت وزارة الخارجية الأمريكية، التزامها الكامل بحماية أرواح الأمريكيين، والدفاع عن الأقليات الدينية، والعمل مع الشركاء الدوليين للقضاء على التهديد الذي يشكله تنظيم داعش على السلام والأمن العالميين.

وعلى صعيد آخر، لقي 20 شخصًا، مصرعهم في هجوم مسلح، استهدف إحدى القرى في مقاطعة بوكوس بولاية بلاتو وسط نيجيريا، في أحدث موجة من أعمال العنف الطائفي التي تضرب منطقة الحزام الأوسط، رغم التعزيزات الأمنية المتكررة وتعهدات الحكومة بوقف نزيف الدم.

Nigerian police announced on Tuesday that the attack occurred over the weekend, with violent clashes breaking out between security forces and the attackers in the early hours of Sunday morning.
