Early rains disrupt life in Wau... roads and bridges underwater, and fears of worse to come.

Wau, the capital of Western Bahr el Ghazal state, has experienced heavy rainfall that has flooded several main roads and bridges, disrupting traffic within the city, amid growing concern among residents about the repercussions of the rainy season, which began early this year.

Images and videos circulating on social media showed a significant rise in water levels in several vital streets, where main roads appeared impassable, while some bridges were directly affected by the rush of water and its accumulation in low-lying areas, especially within residential neighborhoods.

According to local reports, the rain started in the early morning hours and continued for several hours straight, leading to the accumulation of large amounts of water in the streets, given the weak ability of the drainage networks to accommodate this volume of rainfall.

Citizens fear that the wave of rain will continue in the coming days, especially given the limited infrastructure for water drainage, which could worsen the situation and lead to disruption of daily activities and movement within the city.

Wau is one of the cities that is significantly affected during the rainy season each year, as it experiences frequent partial flooding due to inadequate drainage systems. This poses renewed challenges for local authorities and highlights the need for urgent interventions to address this recurring problem and reduce its impact on the lives of residents.
