جاء ذلك خلال المؤتمر الصحفي المشترك الذي عقده، اليوم السبت، مع رئيسة تنزانيا سامية صولوحو حسن، على هامش زيارته الرسمية إلى تنزانيا، لبحث سبل تعزيز العلاقات الثنائية بين البلدين.

President Sisi’s visit to Tanzania comes within the framework of strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries, supporting cooperation in various political, economic and developmental fields, in addition to discussing regional issues of common interest.

The United Republic of Tanzania is located in East Africa. Dodoma is its official capital, while Dar es Salaam is the largest Tanzanian city and its most important economic and commercial center.

Tanzania has a population of approximately 70.5 million according to World Bank estimates, while the country's most recent official census puts the figure at around 61 million. Tanzania covers an area of approximately 947,000 square kilometers, and Swahili is the official language. The World Bank projected Tanzania's GDP to reach approximately $90 billion in 2025.

Tanzania holds special importance for Egypt as one of the Nile Basin countries, which makes relations between the two countries of strategic importance, in addition to the long-standing historical ties between the two peoples.

President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi’s visit to Tanzania is his second visit to the country, following his first visit during the era of the late President John Magufuli in 2017. It is also the first visit during the era of the current Tanzanian President, Dr. Samia Hassan, who assumed the presidency of the country in 2021.

Historical relations between Cairo and Dar es Salaam

Egypt and Tanzania have historical ties dating back to the era of leaders Gamal Abdel Nasser and Julius Nyerere, the leader of the liberation movement in Tanganyika and founder of the Tanzanian state, as the two leaders played a prominent role in supporting national liberation movements in the African continent.

Diplomatic relations were established between Egypt and Tanganyika on May 29, 1962, before the opening of the Egyptian embassy in Dar es Salaam and the Tanzanian embassy in Cairo in 1964, following the completion of the union between Tanganyika and Zanzibar and the declaration of the establishment of the United Republic of Tanzania.
