على مدى يومين، انتعشت الأجواء في العاصمة السياسية لبنين، بورتو نوفو، مع شخصيات إيغونغون وزانغبيتو وغويليدي الأسطورية خلال مهرجان الأقنعة، حيث ملأت الاحتفالات والمسيرات المدينة بالألوان والتقاليد.
واستعدت مدينة بورتو نوفو، عاصمة بنين، لاستقبال واحد من أبرز الأحداث الثقافية في غرب إفريقيا، وهو مهرجان الأقنعة، الذي يُقام يومي 25 و26 يوليو 2026، وسط أجواء احتفالية تعكس عمق التراث المحلي وغنى الموروث الشعبي.
البروفيسور ماهوغنون كاكبو، قال إن الأقنعة فريدة وعالمية في آن واحد، وإنها تحمل رسالة.
أضاف: الكمامة عالمية. كل شعب، كل حضارة لديها كمامات لأن من سبقونا، أجدادنا الأجلاء، ابتكروا أفكارًا وكلماتٍ غرسوها في الكمامات. الكمامات ليست مجرد شيء نرتديه على وجوهنا ونخلعه. الكمامات تمثل رسالة”، هكذا قال الأستاذ.
تابع: هذه الرسالة، التي تناقلها الأجداد، هي ما يهدف المهرجان إلى نشره خارج نطاق المجتمعات التي تعرف رموزه. وراء كل قناع قصة.
وأكمل: “تحمل الأقنعة المقدسة رسالة، تماماً كما تحمل الأقنعة العلمانية رسالة. ولتنويع هذه الأقنعة، جعلنا المهرجان دولياً. وعندما نتحدث عن مهرجان دولي، فإننا نعني أن الأقنعة التي لا تقتصر على الأقنعة البنينية فقط هي التي تشارك في هذا الحدث”.
في بورتو نوفو، يساعد مهرجان الأقنعة في صياغة استراتيجية سياحية مبنية على الاندماج وفهم الطقوس ولقاء حاملي التقاليد.
بورتو نوفو تستعد لاستقبال المهرجان
The festival is an annual event that blends traditional arts and spiritual rituals, filling the streets with dance performances, traditional costumes, and colorful masks, all accompanied by drums and music with roots stretching back centuries. These events are often linked to Voodoo beliefs, which form an integral part of Benin's cultural identity.
A pivotal role for women
While the festival typically focuses on visual displays such as masks and dances, this year it highlights the role of women, who are the cornerstone of preserving this heritage. Women are not merely spectators; they play a key role in passing on folk songs and traditional rituals from one generation to the next.
During the performances, the women appear dressed in white, barefoot, sitting in harmonious circles, keeping to the rhythm of the music, and chanting oral songs that were not written down in books, but remained alive in the collective memory of the community.
A living heritage that is renewed
The Porto Novo Mask Festival is a prime example of how intangible heritage can be preserved, where the past and present blend seamlessly into a vibrant cultural scene.
