Kenya is boosting its creative economy with new government initiatives to support young people.

The Kenyan government explained in a statement that the country has already taken concrete steps to strengthen this sector, including the establishment of a specialized government department for the creative economy, reflecting the official direction towards supporting and developing cultural and artistic industries.

As part of deepening this commitment, the creation of a special office for the creative economy within the Presidential Palace was announced, with a number of key officials to be appointed soon, including a director for the digital games sector, a director for film services, and a head for the music and fashion sectors.

These statements were made during an official participation in the 14th edition of the Kalasha Television Festival, Film Market and Awards, held at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre in Nairobi, the capital, where this event is a prominent platform for showcasing talents and creativity in the arts and media industry.

The government affirmed its commitment to increasing investments in this vital sector, noting the intention to allocate 30% of government advertising to creative platforms, in a move aimed at supporting local content and enhancing the sustainability of cultural industries.

The executive authority also called on parliament to expedite the discussion and approval of the 2026 Creative Economy Bill, along with strengthening intellectual property rights protection laws, to ensure the protection of the rights of artists and creators, and to provide a fair environment that guarantees them the appreciation and reward they deserve for their work.

At the conclusion of the event, congratulations were extended to all the winners in the various categories, with the announcement of the Presidential Palace's intention to bid to host the next edition of the awards ceremony, in a move that reflects the growing official interest in supporting this vital sector.

These moves come within the framework of a comprehensive vision that seeks to transform the creative economy into one of the engines of economic growth, and to enhance the country’s position as a regional center for creativity and innovation.
